Choosing an aged care home is a deeply personal and important decision for older people and their loved ones.
Knowing that a provider can deliver high quality care, and that you or your loved one will be safe, happy and well looked after, is critical to making the right choice.
One of the key recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety was the need for measurable information on the quality of residential aged care to support older people to compare and make informed choices on their care.
Our goal in this project was to create a nationally consistent benchmark to measure and monitor care quality across more than 2,000 aged care homes.
We needed to present data in a way that was accessible, relevant and meaningful to older people, and that supported choice and decision making. Providing transparency about the performance of homes also supports providers to improve their care delivery.
